d i s c o v e r i e s

it is so difficult to find photographers that manage to translate what is good about portraiture into fashion imagery, but to me jody does it so wellher photographs have the qualities of intimacy and honesty, but she is also not scared of a little set and props, often playing with cloth or pausing a hairdo in progress to document the in-between stages, moments that belong to reality as well as to the imagination
I like to think of fashion as a possibility for fantasy, and I like to think that there can be integrity in the quest for fantasy - as long as it is your own world that you are expressing

serpent goddess and juliana barwick

who are we, and how do we relate to our context, the natural world? in prehistorical times societies were based on matriarchy and goddess spirituality, and exploitation (...nature, class, gender) was not yet an issue. there is some inspiring thinking out there about the need to bring a balance between the feminine and masculine in the modern world for it to thrive...
my brain is meandering through texts by erich fromm and charlene spretnak, I'm reading about the goddess movement, and I'm listening to julianna barwick's vocal drones.
