Some images from a catalog for the show 'stuff that matters' at Raven Row.
This show speaks of a time in which silk textiles were a "very profitable object of trade and an essential means of communication for motifs, designs, cultural values and ideas, as well as the power behind them."
I throughly enjoyed walking in the quiet Spitalfields gallery, absorbing the history of these textiles.
As designers we often end up visiting an exhibition for a potential direct inspiration (a colour, a texture etc)
but it's good to sometimes experience beauty regardless of the inspiration that can derive from it, and rather use Beauty as an opportunity for reflection.
